MARTDK
MARTDK is an artist community that presents unique public events that uses art and sneakers as an engagement tool to connect and empower communities and cultures. Their events involve young and emerging artists competing for the best shoe design with only 20 min to create it. Artists from all over Canada and the United States come up with one of a kind designs on sneakers with acrylic markers and are judged in front of a live audience. This hands-on program provides artists with an outlet to share personalized narratives by using art on sneakers as the canvas.
I’ve competed in several of these school competitions throughout high school and into university. Not only have I gain prize money, art supplies, and scholarships by achieving first place prizes, but these events have connected me to follow youth artists, professional artists, TV personals, and successful people in Industrial Design, Shoe Design, Fashion Design, and Creative Industries.
